Abstract

Kitâb-ı Güzîde’nin Bilinmeyen Bir Nüshası: Kitâb-ı Müstetâb ve Nüshaları Üzerine Genel Değerlendirmeler

In our history of the Turkish language, it is observed that some works belonging to the Eastern Turkic sphere have served as sources for the foundation of the Western Turkic sphere, known as Oghuz Turkish. The first work transferred from Eastern Turkic to Old Anatolian Turkish is the book Kitâb-ı Güzîde. This book, originally written in Khwarezmian Turkic by Imam Zahid Abu Nasr bin Tahir bin Muhammad as-Serahsi, was translated into Old Anatolian Turkish by Muhammad bin Bâlî in the 14th century. Kitâb-ı Güzîde is a religious work consisting of forty-six chapters, each dealing with a different religious topic. The original Güzîde book written in Khwarezmian Turkic has not yet been found, but a fragment of eleven pages derived from Güzîde has survived to the present day. Muhammad bin Bâlî’s translation into Old Anatolian Turkish has multiple copies preserved in various libraries. In this study, an unknown copy of Kitâb-ı Güzîde, registered under the name el-Müstetâb as number 3856 in the Sivas Ziya Bey Library, will be introduced. Copies of Kitâb-ı Güzîde have been compared with the Fazylov’s publication, with text examples provided from these copies. Through these comparisons, similarities and differences between the copies have been identified. The aim of this study on Kitâb-ı Güzîde is to contribute to the field of the Turkish language.
