Abstract

Garib-nâme’de Yaratılışa Dair

Âşık Pasha’s Garib-nâme is the most voluminous and comprehensive work of 14th century Turkish literature. It is also one of the pioneering works in shaping and developing Turkish literature. In the work, which consists of ten chapters and ten parables under these ten chapters, Âşık Pasha gives detailed information about Turkish culture, life, lifestyle, mentality, and understanding of mysticism. In this article, what is told in Garib-nâme about the creation of the universe and human beings and the nature of their existence is discussed. The study is based on the universe, human and word, regarding to the fact that Âşık Pasha handled the creatures in three categories. However, since some stages are mentioned in the creation of the universe, these stages are included under separate headings. In the writings of Âşık Pasha about creation, it has been tried to draw attention to the effects of old Turkish beliefs and Islamic philosopyh and mysticism. Although the work was written under the influence of Sufi culture, Âşık Pasha reflected the knowledge and cultural accumulation of his period into his work, and also conveyed his own interpretations and ideas about the universe and man. In the study, the pieces of information scattered in different parts of the work about creation are brought together and examined. These writings about creation are important in terms of showing how the knowledge and interpretations about the creation of the universe in the Islamic religion, philosophy and Sufi culture were explained in a plain and clear Turkish in 14th century Anatolia.
