Abstract

İnternet Üzerinden Çok Satılan Çocuk Kitaplarının Kritik Analitik Düşünce Yönünden İncelenmesi

This study examines thinking, types of thinking, children’s literature, children’s books and their general features and then focuses upon the characteristics of children’s books with critical-analytical thinking aspects. Based on these features, the paper examines eleven books under the title of “best-selling children’s books” in the “children’s books” category of three significant websites that sell books on the Internet (Kitapyurdu, İdefix and Kitega) in terms of “characteristics of children’s books”, which have “critical-analytical thinking features.” The study has found that seven of the eleven books (64%) show the features of children’s books with critical-analytical thinking perspectives. In these books, “there is no room for prejudices and preconceptions as for critical-analytical thinking.” In ten books (91%), “questioning seems essential in terms of critical-analytical thinking” so that “it is crucial to make an inference from what one reads concerning critical-analytical thinking and to reach judgment and conclusion based on this inference.” The study illuminates in the selected texts that “in critical-analytical thinking, it is vital not only to be scientific and logical but also to behave consistently” and that “it is equally indispensable to relate events to the real-life at one point.” In addition, the study points out that “in critical-analytical thinking”, there is no space for “emotions such arrogance, self-knowledge, selfishness, cowardice, blind obedience, and flattery.” According to the “Future Jobs Report” published by the World Economic Forum, employers believe that the “critical-thinking and problem-solving skills” will come to the fore in the next five years. This study aims to raise awareness among the audiences of “children’s books.”
