Abstract

Kısa Ömürlü İki Çocuk Dergisi: Haftalık Resimli Gazetemiz (1924) ve Mektepliler Alemi (1925) Dergileri (Çeviriyazı, İnceleme)

The acquisition of values and teachings is as important as physical needs. In this context, the various learning methods and opportunities for exploration offered during childhood are critical. Literature, as one of the opportunities for this acquisition, stands out as an effective tool that feeds children’s imagination and enriches their life experiences by using the power of context. Children’s literature, in particular, offers both educational and entertaining content to those interested in it, with works appropriate to their age and developmental level. Newspapers and magazines for children are also important sources in terms of increasing access to information and raising awareness on various issues. With their rich content and attractive visual designs, these publications contribute greatly to the development of children’s reading habits and support them in acquiring knowledge and increasing their artistic tastes. With the proclamation of the Republic in Turkey, priority was given to the education and cultural development of the ‘Children of the Young Republic’. The publications of this period aimed to provide children with knowledge and an aesthetic experience through texts selected from both Turkish and world literature; in the first five years, with their science and reason-oriented content, they served as an important bridge as part of social transformation by preparing children for a modern educational approach. The seven-issue Weekly Illustrated Newspaper published in Istanbul and the six-issue Flag Of Scholars published in Izmir began their publishing process in the light of the aforementioned goals and included different types of texts. In this study, it is attempted to determine the messages intended to be given to the readers in the content of two publications that failed to make a difference compared to the publications of their period and were shorter-lived than expected.
