Abstract

Hayvanlarla İlgili İnanışlar: Kuzeydoğu Anadolu Bölgesi (Kars-Ardahan-Artvin)

In the study, beliefs and practices regarding animals in the Kars-Ardahan-Artvin provinces of the Northeastern Anatolia region were discussed. It has been observed that beliefs and practices related to animals are effective in many areas such as bad luck and bad luck, behaviors that suggest death, the evil eye, folk meteorology, extraordinary beings such as jinn jazz and scarlet fever, the effects of animals in the transition periods of life, birth and death stages, abundance and unfruitfulness. While these beliefs and practices detected in the region, which originate from the ancient Turkish belief system, are discussed, examples are given of beliefs about animals found in some regions of Anatolia. Even though societies experienced changes in time and place, they continued their old beliefs by changing their shape and form rather than giving up. It can be said that beliefs about animals, which play an active role in every stage of life in the Northeastern Anatolia region, are the remnants of ancient Turkish beliefs. In this study, beliefs and practices regarding animals such as dogs, cats, horses, sheep, wolves, chickens, roosters, owls and dragons are discussed. Beliefs and practices such as cats, dogs, owls, chickens and roosters being considered harbingers of death, black animals being sacrificed to evil spirits as they are considered unlucky, and animals representing wealth and abundance such as sheep being used in the treatment of infertility were examined. The study was produced from the doctoral thesis titled Northeastern Anatolia Region Folk Beliefs Kars-Ardahan-Artvin
