Refi' Cevad Ulunay, besides being one of the oppositional journalists of his time, was also a writer who was not indifferent to social events. In this sense, Ulunay has written numerous stories about the changes in social life and moral values during the Westernization process. Some of these stories were serialized in Tan, one of the leading publications of the 1940s, where Ulunay often adopted a sharply critical stance towards the Westernization journey. In this study, 22 stories serialized by Refi’ Cevad Ulunay in Tan newspaper between 1940 and 1941 have been examined in terms of their reflection of the socio-cultural atmosphere of the period. In the study, Ulunay’s stories in Tan have been analyzed with a thematic approach in light of his writing journey in the newspaper. Within the framework of Westernization, social changes are conveyed in these stories through topics and problems such as the position and role of women in social life, the stance of intellectuals in relation to society and power, the use of the daily language of the period, and moral corruption in relationships. In this perspective, Refi' Cevad Ulunay's stories are evaluated under the titles of “Moral Collapse”, “Women”, “ Criticism of Language”, and “Intellectual and Patronage”. The study aims to introduce and analyze Ulunay’s stories in Tan and, through these stories, to provide a new perspective on his storytelling, the literature of his time, and the social structure of the period.
