The 19th century was a turning point for the urban history of the Ottoman Empire and Istanbul. The westernization movements experienced in the Ottoman Empire in this century also affected the urban space of Istanbul. One of the most important movements affecting the urban space was the attempts to expand the Ottoman Industry. The Industrial Revolution that started in Europe in the 18th century and the events that followed; small-scale production workshops were replaced by modern industrial facilities. Similar changes were experienced primarily in Istanbul and other Ottoman cities. The construction of large-scale industrial facilities caused an irresistible transformation in the city of Istanbul and the growth of the city's peripheries. When industrial structures were built, factors such as transportation, raw materials and large areas were taken into consideration. According to these factors, some regions of Istanbul were deliberately chosen as industrial centers. One of these regions was today's Zeytinburnu district, which is outside the walls of Istanbul. Before the 19th century, the Zeytinburnu district had the appearance of a small town located just outside the walls. However, in the 19th century, it entered a transformation process with the opening of industrial facilities that produced especially for the army. The purpose of this study; It is an examination of the transformation that took place in the urban history of Zeytinburnu in the 19th century, together with industrial structures. The traces of this transformation in urban space, the historical process of Zeytinburnu, its 19th century and current situation will be revealed by comparing with archive documents, old and new maps and visual materials.
