Abstract

Dede Korkut’un Bamsı Beyrek Destanı’ndaki Semboller ve Tasavvufî Yorumları

The Bamsı Beyrek Epic is the most widespread folk narration in Turkish societies with its various variants. It was determined that symbols were used intensively in the Bamsı Beyrek Epic. Similarities were found between themes that had a place in the lives of the Turks in the pre-Islamic period and sûfî symbolism. It was seen that these similarities were used by Dede Korkut to explain how spiritual maturation would be achieved. For example, the fact that the story, which begins with the meaning and consequences of not being able to have children in the Turks, ends with the prayer “not to be separated from the son and the brother” is a result of the sûfî experiences. In this process, Bamsı Beyrek, who has the experience of tasting love and suffering the suffering of love in the prison of jealousy, shows the example of being a perfect person. The epic examined from this aspect was subjected to the document analysis method. The data collected in the light of other scientific disciplines along with sufism were analyzed after being classified and organized. For this purpose, an attempt was made to capture the general perspective by making use of studies on the epic in different fields such as literature, folklore, history and psychology. As a result of the Sufi interpretation of the symbols obtained, it was determined that the symbolism used in the epic matched some inductive meanings that supported another research method, the grounded theory. In this respect, the epic, which is being studied for the first time, can contribute to the development of mystical theory, which is neglected in the Book of Dede Korkut.
