Müellifi ve Telif Tarihi Meçhul Bir Arapça-Türkçe Manzum Sözlük: Bülgatü’s-Sıbyân

Arabic and Persian had a great influence in shaping the language, culture and literature of the Ottoman Empire. In this period, learning and teaching of these languages has always been important in order to develop both literary and scientific. Based on this importance, many works have been written as a source for learning Arabic and Persian languages faster and better. Poetic dictionaries prepared to make words easier to learn and to become more permanent in memory are among these works. Although there are also those works written for the languages of different communities that constitute the citizens Ottoman Empire, the vast majority of the poetic dictionaries are written in Arabic-Turkish, Persian-Turkish or Arabic-Persian-Turkish. In this respect, one of the poetic dictionaries prepared in Arabic-Turkish is Bulgatu’s-Sıbyân, whose author and date of copyright are not available. In this work, which is the only known manuscript and which has 250 couplets, Turkish meaning of around 1100 Arabic words are given.
