Abstract

Türk Romanında Yemen İsyanları

Yemen is a province ruled by the tribes that were influential in the region on behalf of the central government during the Ottoman period. Due to its distance from the central authority, Yemen has encountered numerous difficulties. The most well-known of these issues is the revolts initiated against the Istanbul government. While both the geographical distance and the fact that the people of the region are guided by belief groups that are quite different from the Sunni government are shown as the main reasons for the rebellions, the poverty of the people living in the Yemen region is also accepted as the reason for the revolts against the Ottoman state. Yemen occupies a geostrategic region due to its links with the Suez Canal, the Red Sea and the Aden Gulf. For this reason, this area, which the European colonial states wanted to keep under control to reach India, was attempted to be destabilized, and the society was divided into two groups Sunnis and Zaydis, taking into account sectarian differences, and was guided by imams. Imam Muhammad, Imam Idris and Imam Yahya are the "imams" who are very powerful in the region and are known to guide the people in social events. The political position of Yemen, which comes with political events, has also attracted attention in Turkish literature. Thus, Yemen occupies a special place in the literary field, particularly in novels in which the region's political turbulence, wars, and rebellions are discussed. The struggle of the Ottoman Turkish soldiers to ensure stability and the psycho-social basis of this constitutes the main topic of these novels. The aim of the present study is to determine the importance of the Yemen region, examine how the Yemeni rebellions are approached in the novels, and evaluate the reasons behind the rebellions in the region within the framework of literature and society.
