Scientific and technological developments advancing at a dizzying speed necessitate raising democratic and versatile individuals who can communicate quickly and be the active constructors of the meaning-making process. In a world that has turned into a global village, qualified reading education is essential in order to be able to express oneself correctly and effectively, to think from a wide-ranging perspective, to solve problems, to establish cause-effect relationships, to perceive implicit meanings, and to be successful in educational environments and social life. In this study, it is aimed to explain the concept of reading and the components that make up reading and the stages of reading. The document analysis technique was used in the data collection process of the study, which was structured with the qualitative research method, and the content analysis technique was used in the analysis of the data. In the study, first of all, a literature review was conducted in which all dimensions of the subject were examined in accordance with the research question, and the basic titles related to the concept of reading, the formation and stages of reading were determined. Then, by referring to the history of reading, the change and transformation of the concepts related to reading over time, the physical, mental and social elements of reading are explained. Then, the brain regions that are active during reading are mentioned. Finally, the stages of reading are explained.
