The deterioration of the ecological balance with the development of industry, population growth and urbanization is among the biggest problems of the 21st century. Environmental organizations, activists and volunteers explain the dimensions of the problem in every platform and seek a solution. Litterateurs have also begun to think about this issue that concerns every individual in the world in order to raise awareness and have written eco-critical texts. Especially after 1980, it has become one of the topics discussed in Turkish literature. Just as there are works written with eco-critical consciousness, there are also literary works in which environmental consciousness is questioned in the background. Orhan Pamuk is one of the authors of Turkish literature who dealt with the phenomenon of urbanization along with modernism and environmental problems in many of his works. Describing Istanbul as a character in his novels, the author revealed all the details of the city’s cultural, sociological, physical development and changes. In this article, what is eco-criticism, its development, its entry into the world of literature are explained. In the study, what ecocriticism is, its development, its entry into the world of literature have been discussed; environmental ideas in Orhan Pamuk’s novels have been identified and examined. As a result of this approach, it has been revealed that the ecocritical approach has been used by just a few authors in Turkish literature. In the study, the ecocritical approach in Orhan Pamuk’s novels, which is seen sometimes directly, but sometimes indirectly, has been evaluated through examples.
