Epics, which have a important oral literature tradition are the indicators of the past roots of a nation. From epics, it is possible to find out nations’ adventure in history, lifestyle, perspectiveon world, tradition and faith. Game is the first struggling of humanity against itself and nature. It is possible to find different period characteristics, forgotten types tradition in games, which are has old as human history. The game of kökbörü, which contains ritual features and carries social norms in its name, is a horse game also being played today. The subject of this study is the determination of how kökbörü took place in Kyrgyz epics and context, structure and function of the game of kökbörü’s narrative, which is beloved in Turkic world and has has been varied while being played for centuries. In this determination, functional and contextual hypothesis’ approach is utilized. The game’s time, place and environment constitute kökbörü’s context. According to Kyrgyz epics, kökbörü was played at “toy”s, after the appointment of khagan, and post-war, for entertainment, trial and competition. It was seen that kökbörü’s name and its elements are used to draw an analogy. The game of kökbörü has been shaped within bonds of specific rules and has become its present form as a part of Turks’ entertainment, ceremony and daily life, and still being played today.
