Abstract

Dîvânu Lugâti’t-Türk ve Eşdizimlilik: Türkçenin İlk Eşdizim Sözlüğü

Dîvânu Lugâti't-Türk (DLT) describes the collocational knowledge of words in various ways although it does not contain all the information types expected from today's modern dictionaries. It can even be argued that DLT has a structure and method based largely on collocational uses, and that it is described according to the collocational use and meaning of words. This attitude adopted in DLT also gives us some clues about the dictionary type, purpose and target audience of DLT. DLT is mostly considered an encyclopedic dictionary in the literature. When its microstructure is examined, it is seen that DLT has the characteristics of a collocations dictionary, mostly in accordance with its purpose and target audience, in which usage (pragmatic) information is also given. This can be evidenced by the fact that in DLT, instead of describing or explaining verbs directly, they are defined with their collocational meanings by giving their collocational use and resrictions. Because, it is seen that Kaşgarlı has a high level of collocation awareness, and especially prefers collocations and collocational definition. In this study, it is suggested that DLT is designed as a collocation dictionary in terms of its microstructure, since it is based on the knowledge of collocations of words. How collocations are presented in DLT and what features of a collocation dictionary DLT contain are examined. It has been argued that the most unique aspect of DLT is the method of selecting and describing Turkish collocations in parallel with modern collocation dictionaries, and in this respect, DLT is designed as a dictionary of formulaic units and collocations in which the frequency of words and word combinations is prioritized.
