The tales of La Fontaine are one of the important sources of the fable genre. These tales are generally used as sample texts in Turkish textbooks. The aim of the study is to determine the contradictory personality traits of the characters in La Fontaine's tales. For this purpose, it has been discussed whether fairy tale heroes with opposite personalities are suitable for child readers. Document analysis, one of the qualitative research techniques, was used in the study. The book is a collection of twelve books. There are 231 fairy tales written in verse in these books. As a result of the examination, more than one personality trait was determined in 21 of 94 animal characters in the tales. 44 of these personality traits are positive and 143 are negative traits. The fact that the characters in the fairy tales exhibit different personality traits creates some negative situations for child readers. Sudden and unjustified changes in the characters are a situation where the child's confidence in the characters and the book will be shaken. The change must be convincing and persuade the reader. Changes that occur suddenly, without encountering a resistance or without establishing a causal link in the event can cause a distrust of the character in the child reader. La Fontaine's fables reveal many values by embodying them. However, although the contrasting personality traits attributed to the heroes in the presentation of these values are suitable for adults, it is predicted that they are not suitable for primary and secondary school students.
