Abstract

Âşık Tarzı Şiir Geleneğinde Deprem Destanları

The tradition of Âşık style poetry has successfully incorporated the life, cultural heritage and events of the Turkish society from its beginning to the present day; For this reason, besides performing art, it also fulfilled functions such as journalism and transferring cultural heritage to the future. The tradition, while telling and conveying all kinds of events experienced by the society, especially refers to the epic genre. What happened in the past is transferred to poetry from the perspective of the minstrels, the performers of the tradition, sometimes objectively and sometimes subjectively with the influence of their moods at that moment. It is seen that these artists, shaped and matured by the influence of the society they live in, produce products suitable for social memory. Earthquakes, which deeply affect a society and sometimes cause thousands of loss of life and property, have also become a narrative material for lovers. For this reason, the earthquakes that occurred in Turkey, which is located in the earthquake zone, have been instrumental in the production of many epics. In our study, epics written/sung by minstrels due to the great earthquakes that took place in Turkey are mentioned. The epics we identified were analyzed according to the chronology of earthquakes. At this point, the poems uttered due to six major earthquakes: 1766 Istanbul, 1893 Erzurum Tortum, 1894 Istanbul, 1939 Erzincan, 1943 Tosya Ladik Earthquake and 1992 Erzincan Earthquake were examined. As a result, it has been seen that the minstrels' narrative styles of earthquakes and the points they contacted were similar, even though they were experienced at different times and in different places. Considering the earthquake as a destiny, occurring due to the deterioration of people and society, and observing the loss of life and property are some of these common points. We are of the opinion that there will be many points where the members of a society who have experienced the same suffering for hundreds of years will benefit from earthquake epics.
