Abstract

İkan’da Adsız Bir Geleneğin Kökeni ve Geleneğe Ad Verme Üzerine Bir Deneme

Naming is a concept that includes naming cultural elements that are not limited to naming only living or inanimate beings by human beings. Traditions, which are one of the most basic practices of intangible cultural heritage among cultural elements, have always maintained their vitality by being passed down from generation to generation in the Turkish world. One of the traditions related to shrines and visitations that can be followed most vividly in the entire Turkic world is kept alive at the Yusuf Ata Mausoleum in the village of Eski Ikan, 25 kilometers from Turkistan in the geography of Kazakhstan, the name and reason of which are unknown. There is information in historical sources that Yusuf Ata lived in the same period as Hodja Ahmet Yesevi, as well as that he was his student and nephew. In the Yusuf Ata Tomb, which is the source of our study, there are other tombs that are said to belong to his family next to the tomb known to belong to Yusuf Ata. The thing that attracts attention in the tomb is the ram’s horns located on top of the white covers laid on the chests. The purpose of this study is to try to elucidate the historical process of this tradition, which has reached to the present day without knowing the reason and name. In this study, based on the research related to the ram and horn cult in Turkish culture, the purpose of the emergence of the tradition that brought the ram horns on the trunks kept in the Yusuf Ata Tomb in the Old Ikan village to the present day was tried to determine, and an experiment was made on naming this tradition.
