Orhan Veli Kanık is primarily known as a poet with the effect of being the pioneer of the Garip movement. The preface of the book Garip, in which the poet, who also carries out many translation activities, conveys his thoughts on poetry and art, prepared with a protest attitude like the Garip movement, is considered a poetic text. This preface, which rejects the tradition and the current understanding of poetry, received a lot of reaction in its time. It can be said that the views in Garip’s poetics are reflected in his stories as well as in his poems. The poet's highlights in his poetics can be listed as follows: simplicity, being away from rhetoric and description, being against the circulation of arts, giving importance to meaning, writing a poem that everyone can understand, and making ordinary people the subject of the poem. In particular, the expression of ordinary people draws attention to Orhan Veli’s poetry. This narration of the poet is also reflected in his stories. It is possible to collect the prominent features of Garip poetics in Orhan Veli’s stories under three headings: the act of writing, the realistic story of ordinary people, and the plain style. The poet presents the story of the ordinary in simple language in the few stories he wrote. It can be said that this style is related to the poet's views on poetry and art, which he explained in the preface to Garip.
