Old Turkic inscriptions, known as one of the most important documents in Turkish language and history, provide valuable information about the origin and development of Turkish culture. Therefore, it is highly important to read, decipher and understand the inscriptions correctly for the study of Turkish culture and history. In recent years, new research and studies have accelerated the reading and interpretation of Old Turkic inscriptions, with an aim to provide more detailed and accurate analyses by presenting a new approach to the inscriptions. However, there are still some difficulties and debates surrounding the meaning and reading of sentences in the inscriptions. The article first discusses the interpretations of the verb yañ-, which attested for the first time in Old Turkic inscriptions. It analyzes the previous meanings and interpretations, and then re-evaluates the meaning of the verb. While determining the meanings of the verb, all evidence of the verb in Old Turkic and its counterparts in modern Turkic languages were also discussed. New research and studies allow us to learn more about Old Turkic inscriptions and to develop methods for a more accurate reading and understanding of the inscriptions. Such efforts will contribute to the field in terms of a more accurate understanding of the inscriptions. Please check and correct the language.
