Abstract

Tutmacı’nın Gül ü Hüsrev Adlı Mesnevisinde Türkçe Organ Adları ile Kurulmuş Deyimler

Idioms are stereotyped phrases that consist of at least two words and usually have a specific meaning more or less separate from the literal meaning. Idioms used to make the expression rich and impressive also add fluency and naturalness to the utterance. Turkish is a very rich language in terms of idioms. As a natural consequence of the ancient history, experience and knowledge accumulated by the Turkish nation, these concise expression patterns, known as idioms, play an important role in effectively conveying emotions, desires, and thoughts. There is a remarkable richness in Turkish in terms of idioms formed with organ names, which are called "somatic idioms" in linguistics. In Turkish, organ names have been frequently and commonly used within idiom structures, thus highlighting their importance in the formation of idiomatic expressions. It is possible to identify idiomatic expressions formed with organ names in Turkish by examining the oldest documents of the Turkish language and these types of idioms hold a distinct importance in showcasing the antiquity and richness of the Turkish language. The idioms constructed with organ names in Turkish are referred to as somatic idioms in linguistics. The present study aims to identify the Turkish idioms consisting of organ names in Tutmacı’s Gül ü Hüsrev, to reveal their meanings supported by sample lines, and to examine their status in Turkish spoken in Turkey. The work, which was penned in the early 15th century, is one of the significant literary and linguistic works of Turkish literature. Despite the various studies carried out on the work to date, no investigation has been conducted on the idioms contained therein.
