Poetry experience, which has a large period of time in Turkish literatüre and gathered around the divan, turns into the material of a reckoning about the origin of art and the segment it will address, since the 19th. century. This situation begins to disintegrate the hierarchical system created in classical poetry under the influence of the concept of “beautiful” in Islam and turns the connotation ability of words into another axis. From the Tanzimat to the Servet-i Fünun, this center of inspiration, which is associated with the traditional poetry, begins to be eliminated with the concept of “freedom” and the new “nature”. The mimesis of the new orientation in poetry, which can be described as modern, becomes the positivist mind and the hierarchy of values it exalts. The new horizon that Şinasi directly conveys and exalts in his poetry is imitated with great admiration. This change, which continues with an unstable tendency in some poets, turns into a conscious choice in the poetry of Servet-i Fünun. Therefore, this difference limits the first point where the word begins and the completion of the meaning in the reader to the concrete in literary genres, especially in poetry. In this research, the change experienced by the cognitive center of the poem as a result of itscontact with the Modern was tried to be evaluated through the Tanzimat and Servet-i Fünun periods, focusing on the concept of “beautiful”representing the old. In this study, traditional literary theory was used as a methodology.
