Okuma Motivasyonuyla İlgili Araştırmalara Yönelik Bir İçerik Analizi

The aim of this research is to determine the trends of articles and postgraduate theses published in Turkey related to reading motivation. The study, which was structured according to the qualitative research design, was carried out using the content analysis method. The website of the National Thesis Centre for Higher Education, journals indexed by SSCI, ULAKBIM and other databases published in Turkey were searched as part of the research. A total of 65 articles and postgraduate theses were reviewed, in which primary, secondary and high school students were sampled. The studies were analysed with the Reading Motivation Research Coding Form (RMRC) and the data obtained were analysed with the SPSS program. The results were tabulated using frequencies and percentages from descriptive statistical methods. According to the 11 titles in the form, it was determined that the most common type of study was a master’s thesis (44.62%), the most research was conducted in 2019 (23.08%), and the most research on the subject was conducted at Gazi University (14.71%). In addition, as a subject, the relationship level of reading motivation with reading elements and different variables and the effect of teaching methods/techniques on reading motivation were investigated; most of the studies were conducted with quantitative designs with a rate of 78.46%; primary school students are more preferred as a sample (55.38%); scales were the most preferred data collection tools (63.71%); the other results of the research are the intense preference of the quantitative data analyses with a rate of 90.7%. The most frequently repeated result in the studies was “The reading motivation of female students is higher than the reading motivation of male students”. It has been noted that studies that have examined the relationship between parental education level, grade level, pre-school education, having a library at home, frequency of reading books and motivation to read have found opposite results.
