The historical consciousness that started to awaken in Europe after the French Revolution opened the door to a new genre, the historical novel. The reflection of the historical novel written in Western style on Turkish literature has been exactly with the works written by Namık Kemal and Ahmet Mithat Efendi in nineteenth century and since Turkish history has a rich source, many historical novels have been written until today. However, the boundaries of the historical novel and the period/era novel are sometimes mixed up. In fact, the period novel that is or should be evaluated in the sub-category of the historical novel, ıt is a species that differs from each other in certain characteristics. Apart from the explanations and definitions made about this concept in Turkish literature, holistic studies are more limited. As a result of the scans, a few independent studies have been identified that approach the period/age novel only theoretically, pointing out the features it shows from the definition of the concept and the points where it differs from the historical novel. Our aim with this article is to focus on the type of period novel that differs from the historical novel by centering these independent studies and to bring it to the literature by examining Bahadır Yenişehirlioğlu’s work called Kara Güneş, which can be shown as an example of the mentioned genre. The reason why this novel was chosen is that it is an important example of the “period novel” genre, which first deals with the 15 July 2016 attempt to destroy the existence of the Republic of Türkiye, whose 100th anniversary is being celebrated, based on the will of the people, and the structuring of the FETÖ terrorist organization, the perpetrators of this event.
