This study involves the analysis of children’s books within the Environmental Children’s Education Set – Zero Waste Project Educational Set, which contains five children’s books published by Environmental Children’s Education Publications and printed and distributed by the Kızılcahamam Municipality, in terms of their children’s literature qualities. The books of Environmental Children’s Education Publications were selected for the study. The study employed the document analysis method, which is a qualitative research approach. For the research, Karaköse’s “Evaluation Form for Internal and External Features of Children’s Books” and “Picture-Text Relationship Evaluation Form” were used. A total of four experts evaluated the books: two from the field of Visual Arts Education and two from Turkish Education. The findings of the study indicate that, while the examined books deliver educational messages with an environmental theme, they also exhibit certain deficiencies in terms of children’s literature qualities. Regarding external features, the books generally had fragile bindings, low-quality paper, and cover designs that were not engaging for children. In terms of internal structure, inconsistencies were observed in plot development and character progression. The most notable deficiencies emerged in the analysis of the picture-text relationship; the illustrations largely failed to support the text, lacked semantic coherence, and were weak in terms of aesthetic aspects such as color usage, character design, placement of visuals on the page, and overall visual appeal. Additionally, improvements are needed in conveying time and space, as well as in representing characters’ emotions and expressions.
