Abstract

Cumhuriyet Dönemi Yapılan Halk Oylamalarının Adana’ya Yansıması (1960-1990)

Referendums are one of the different forms of political participation in a democratic system. In referendums, laws generally prepared by parliament were submitted to the people for approval or rejection, and were either accepted or rejected accordingly. In this respect, referendums served as a tool when amendments to the Constitution were desired. In referendums, the people's opinion played a decisive role in the process of approving or structuring the Constitution. In this context, the first referendum in Turkey was held on July 9, 1961, for the adoption of the 1961 Constitution. Subsequently, four referendums were held during the years in question for the adoption of the 1982 Constitution and for the amendment of some articles of the 1982 Constitution. In this study, the results of the referendums held in Adana during the Republican Era are analyzed on the basis of districts. The general results are compared with the average of Turkey. The political attitude shown in Adana during the referendums is analyzed in detail through the data. The study was prepared based on TUIK data. It also benefited from copyrighted and surveyed works.
