Abstract

Erken Çocukluk Döneminde Doğa Temelli Sanat Atölye Çalışmaları ile Doğa Bilincinin Oluşturulması

This study investigates how art can contribute to the development of ecological awareness in early childhood by re-establishing the aesthetic connection between humans and nature. The research aims to reveal the effects of nature-based art activities on children’s environmental awareness, empathy, observation skills, and aesthetic sensitivity. The study was conducted using a qualitative research design. The participant group consisted of ten children aged 4–6 who took part in art activities organized in natural settings. During the implementation process, a total of twelve art activities—including nature-themed painting, collage, clay, and mandala works—were carried out using recyclable and natural materials. Four of these activities were analyzed in depth to ensure representative diversity and data richness. Data were collected through naturalistic observation notes recorded by a field expert, descriptive analyses of the children’s art products, and interviews with children and parents. The data were analyzed using descriptive and content analysis techniques. The findings indicate that art-based activities can strengthen children’s perceptions of nature and enhance their empathy toward the environment, as well as their observational and aesthetic awareness. In conclusion, integrating art education with nature-based learning processes is evaluated as an effective approach to fostering ecological awareness in early childhood.
