Abstract

Van Atasözlerinde Halk İnanışları Üzerine Bir Değerlendirme

Proverbs are important products of folk wisdom and shared cultural heritage. People have expressed the knowledge gained from centuries of experience and accumulated wisdom in a concise manner. In this respect, proverbs are of great importance in teaching people lessons and guiding them on the right path. The transmission of the ancestors long-term life experiences and accumulated knowledge to subsequent generations serves as a guide for them in this context and provides great convenience. As carriers of culture, proverbs advise people, directing them towards beneficial behaviours and offering various pieces of advice to avoid them away from harmful actions. Proverbs, as bearers of culture, offer people advice, guide them towards beneficial behaviour, and provide various recommendations to help them avoid harmful actions. Thus, a folk belief born from centuries of experience continues to endure. The anxiety and hope that certain positive and negative consequences will arise if an action is taken or not taken has become a belief that is passed down from generation to generation. Proverbs warn individuals by predicting the consequences they may face in the future for such behaviours. Therefore, it can be said that proverbs are directly linked to folk beliefs. This study examines the folk beliefs that have developed over time with Van proverbs and investigates how the advice and exhortations in proverbs have been influenced by the cultural geography.

This study utilises research on regional dialects alongside Van proverbs published in existing studies. In this context, proverbs identified as being connected to folk beliefs and selected as appropriate to the subject have been examined.
