Abstract

Kalkandelenli Muîdî’nin Leylâ vü Mecnûn Mesnevisi

Muîdî from Kalkandelen (16th century) is a poet whose name is mentioned in all poet biographies of his period, but we have limited information about his life. It is understood that the life of the poet, who was not able to continue his path of knowledge with the same success, which he started with promising a bright future as an assistant to Zenbilli Ali Efendi, passed through many troubles. A typical feature of Muîdî, a productive poet, is that he writes quickly. Muîdî’s only known prose work is Miftâh al-teşbîh. Although it is recorded in the sources that he was the owner of hamse, only copies of his mathnawis named Şam? ü Parvâna and Gul u Nevrûz are available; The poet’s Vâmıq u Azrâ has not been found yet. In this article, a new mathnawi of Muîdî, whose existence is not mentioned in the sources, will be introduced. This work, which we think is his first work on the path of writing hamsa (five mathnawi), is the Leylâ and Mejnûn mathnawi, whose existence is not mentioned in either old sources or new studies. The only copy we have identified of the poet’s completely unknown work called Aşq-efzâ is registered in the Dresden Library, Mscr.Dresd.Ea.63, in Germany. The copy in question, which appears to have at least three leaves broken off, consists of 96 leaves. Aşq-efzâ, written in the mefâîlün mefâîlün feûlun pattern of hezec (aruz meter), consists of 2756 couplets according to the text we have prepared. While creating his work, Muîdî adopted Hâtifî’s Persian Leylâ and Mejnûn as a model. This article was written to introduce the work, which is prepared to be published as a book by us, to the scientific world. In the article, some conclusions about Muîdî’s life and works will be shared, especially based on this work; the manuscript in question will be introduced, and after giving information about the work, information will be given about the relationship of Aşq-efzâ with Hâtifî’s work and its originality.
