Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı, who is known for his poetry in Turkish literature, also has a novelist side that has not attracted attention until today. In addition to his poems, the artist also wrote novels in Hafta Mecmuası and stories in Cumhuriyet newspaper. Tarancı’s only novel, “Korkuyorum” (I am afraid), is published as a novel of the week for 8 weeks after the news that it will be published in Hafta Mecmuası [Hafta, No: 84, 11 İkinciciteşrin 1935, Monday p.3]. The novel is a short detective story in which the protagonist Leman narrates the events that happen to her. Leman receives a threatening letter and her fears start to increase. In the following chapters, Leman’s aunt is murdered in their house. Hikmet Bey, a police detective, finds the murderer at the end of the novel; however, the murderer commits suicide. In this respect, it is seen that the element of suspense in the dramatic action in the novel Korkuyorum (I am afraid) is handled in an extremely meticulous manner. In terms of character building, there are some problems in the novel, both in preparing the protagonist for the role and in making him adopt the role. In this study, Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı, who is especially known for his poet identity in Turkish literature, will be examined in terms of novel technique in the context of the conflict between “İdeal and Counter(t) Values” in the plane of “Persons, Concepts and Symbols” under the titles of “Introduction of the Novel, Event Organization, Point of View and Narrator Plane, Time, Space, Persons”v.
