It is widely known that many works written during the Ottoman period remain in libraries and archives awaiting readers. These works, which can only be read by modern readers after being transcribed into the Latin alphabet, have contributed to numerous fields of scholarship. Serving as reflections of the history of nations, these works also deserve scholarly attention. This study examines Okuma Hazinesi (Reading Treasury), written in two volumes for children in 1912 by Ali Nazimâ, one of the late Ottoman authors. The aim of the study is to determine which core values are represented in the stories and how frequently they are addressed. Using the document analysis method, the 200 stories in the work were analyzed within the framework of the twenty core values identified by the Turkish Ministry of National Education (MoNE) for texts included in middle school textbooks. The stories were coded according to their dominant value. Intercoder agreement was calculated as 86%. As a result, 176 stories were associated with the identified core values, while 24 stories were not. The four most frequently identified values were diligence (f = 17), helpfulness (f = 17), justice (f = 15), and honesty (f = 14). The findings provide concrete evidence regarding the work's place in children's literature and its contribution to values education, while also contributing to a better understanding of the nature of the author's works in the field of children's literature. Furthermore, more comprehensive studies on the works of both the author and other writers of the same period are recommended.
