Novruz beliefs, which have begun to be forgotten today, are a cultural element that needs to be reclaimed and kept alive. Therefore, the aim of this article is to provide information about the retransmission of Novruz beliefs to the present day. In the article, Novruz beliefs among the Azerbaijani people will be discussed. Novruz, the oldest and most valuable holiday of the Azerbaijani people, has four Wednesdays. The first of these is Water Wednesday, the second is Fire Wednesday, the third is Wind Wednesday, and the fourth is Earth Wednesday. There are beliefs about water, wind, fire and earth on these Wednesdays, which have continued from the past to the present. These cults, which people used to believe in, continue to show their sanctity on Wednesdays. Four weeks before the feast, Novruz Wednesdays are celebrated. Since each of these Wednesdays is valuable for the Azerbaijani people, it is welcomed with joy and enthusiasm. Especially on the last Wednesday, some rituals and ceremonies are held; houses are cleaned, various meals and desserts are prepared, old wooden items are burned in the fire, the quarrels are reconciled, the graves of close relatives are visited and “Quran” is read, “Tonqal” (big fire) is lit and jumped over, eggs are painted, relatives and acquaintances are visited. On the last Wednesday night, various fortune-tellings are looked at. In addition, these fortune-tellings are seen only once a year during the Novruz festival.
