Mehmet Vecihî, who is an intermediate generation artist, has produced many works in his thirty-five-year life. The author has also produced works in the genres of novels, stories, poems, verse plays, and verse history. Vecihi, who deals with the main subjects such as family, woman and polygamous marriage in his novels and stories, deals with the suffering caused by polygamous marriage on women in his long story Halime. Depending on these problems, the work also includes problems such as women, poverty, family, corruption, betrayal, stepmotherhood. The work is a story of events and events take shape according to coincidences. Vecihî guides the reader by adopting a moralistic attitude from time to time in the narrative. The characters of the fictional world in Halime are determined as the good and the bad. In this contrast, the wicked found their punishment by experiencing a tragic end. As a story character, Halime is a passive and powerless woman. Halime is a type chosen to question polygamous marriage and show the economic status of the society one of the social realities of the period. Although polygamous marriage is shown as the drama of a woman named Halime in the story, it is desired to be presented as a social problem of the society in the background. Although Halime is mentioned in different studies, it has not been investigated enough. In this study, the work called Halime was analyzed in terms of structure and theme. The aim of the study is to determine the negative effects of social and economic problems in the last quarter of the 19th century on Turkish women and men.
