The aim of this research, in which document analysis, one of the qualitative research methods, was used, is to examine and evaluate the texts in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade Turkish textbooks being taught in the 2022-2023 academic year in terms of vocabulary. For this purpose, all of the reading and listening/watching texts in the Turkish textbooks were transferred to Word files and all the words in the texts were indexed using the Cibakaya 2.0 index program. Then, these words were classified by evaluating Aksan's (2004) vocabulary classification, the Turkish Course Curriculum (2019) vocabulary achievements, and the vocabulary elements in the activities and practices in the Turkish textbooks. Accordingly, the vocabulary of the Turkish textbooks that are the subject of our research was classified as “idioms, proverbs, aphorisms, formulaic words, terms, formulaic words, reduplications, proper names, local discourses and colloquial elements, foreign words and abbreviations”. The frequency of use of these elements was determined. The findings obtained were organized in word and excel programs and analyzed with tables and graphs. It was determined that the 8th grade Turkish textbook was the richest textbook in terms of vocabulary elements. This grade level is followed by 6th grade, 7th grade and 5th grade Turkish textbooks, respectively. It was observed that Turkish textbooks became richer in terms of vocabulary as the grade level progressed. However, this situation could not be determined in the 7th grade Turkish textbook.
