The vocabulary of a language is an indicator of how strong and rich that language is. Individuals with rich personal vocabulary are more successful in areas such as understanding, expression, self-expression, social communication, academic and scientific competence. The vocabulary of a language is transferred to individuals through listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. In this direction, vocabulary studies in Turkish language teaching should be carried out in a planned and targeted manner. Written texts have an important role in enriching vocabulary, which is one of the special aims of Turkish teaching. It is important to determine the vocabulary of books written by different authors and to interpret the findings. In this study, it was aimed to determine the vocabulary of Varol Yaşaroğlu's Kral Şakir picture book series consisting of 13 books and to determine the contribution of the vocabulary in the series to Turkish language teaching. For this purpose, qualitative research method was used in the study and the idioms, proverbs, relationship words, stereotypes, dilemmas, terms, foreign words, mirror words, slang words and proper names in the books were determined. From 13 books, 1340 idioms, 9 proverbs, 627 relationship words, 4 stereotyped words, 480 dilemmas, 1269 terms, 3036 foreign words, 78 reflection words, 13 slang words and 3457 proper names were identified. The numerical data obtained as a result of the determinations made were interpreted and the contribution of the books to Turkish language teaching was evaluated in terms of vocabulary.
