The aim of this study is to identify words that were frequently used in the past but are disappearing today in the province of Muğla, to create digital stories to introduce these words to the young generation by taking into account the title of “digital competence” in the 2019 Turkish Language Curriculum, and to contribute to vocabulary studies in this direction. Considering that there is no study in the literature on preparing digital stories to introduce words that are about to be forgotten in the province of Muğla, it is thought that the digital stories developed within the scope of the research will contribute to vocabulary studies.
The model of the research is a case study from qualitative research methods. First, a needs analysis was conducted within the scope of the research; the endemic words of six villages located in the Yılanlı region of the Menteşe district of Muğla province were determined by examining the opinions of the village elders (50 years of age and above). Within the scope of the research, the most frequently expressed words belonging to each village were determined. In this context, it was aimed to create a total of six digital stories for each of the six villages to introduce the most frequently expressed word of that village. The evaluation of the created digital stories by experts was provided by the “Graded Evaluation Scale for Digital Stories”. Necessary adjustments were made to the digital stories in line with expert opinions. As a result of the research, the importance of using digital stories in vocabulary studies was discussed in line with the relevant literature.
